The Bigger Picture
Good tax planning happens before the tax return is prepared.
Your tax return tells you what already happened. Tax planning is about looking ahead. We look for opportunities throughout the year and help coordinate decisions with your CPA or tax professional when needed.
Look beyond this year
The goal isn’t always to pay the least tax this year. Sometimes paying a little more today can put you in a better position down the road.
Make the pieces work together
Withdrawals, investments, charitable giving, Social Security, and other decisions can all affect your taxes. We look at them together instead of one at a time.
Coordinate with your CPA
Good planning works better when everyone is on the same page. We can work directly with your CPA or tax professional to help make sure the plan actually gets carried out.

See If We're A Fit

Roth Conversions

We can help evaluate whether a Roth conversion makes sense, how much to convert, and when to do it.

Tax-Loss Harvesting

When markets move, we look for opportunities to realize losses that may help offset gains and improve the portfolio’s tax efficiency.

Retirement Withdrawals

We help decide which accounts to draw from and when, while considering taxes, required distributions, and your spending needs.

Charitable Giving

We can compare different ways to give, including cash, appreciated investments, donor-advised funds, and qualified charitable distributions.

Capital Gains

We help think through when to realize gains, how they may affect your taxes, and whether there are better ways to manage concentrated positions.

Year-End Planning

Before the year closes, we review things like withholding, estimated taxes, gains and losses, retirement contributions, and other deadlines.
Who it's For
This may be a good fit for...
  • Retirees evaluating Roth conversions or withdrawal strategies
  • Investors managing gains, losses, or concentrated positions
  • Families planning charitable gifts or major financial transitions
  • Professionals who want financial and tax decisions considered together
How it Works
A practical process, explained clearly.
01

Start with the decision

We start by getting clear on what you’re trying to decide, what matters most, and any deadlines or tax issues we need to consider.

02

Compare the options

We look at the different ways you could handle it and talk through how each one may affect your taxes, investments, retirement plan, and cash flow.

03

Put the plan in motion

Once we know what makes sense, we help with the next steps and coordinate with your CPA, attorney, or other professionals when needed.

Do you prepare tax returns?

No. Stonevale does not prepare or file tax returns. We focus on tax planning throughout the year and can coordinate with your CPA or tax preparer when needed.

How is tax planning different from tax preparation?

Tax preparation looks backward at what already happened. Tax planning looks ahead at decisions you can still make before the year is over.

When should I consider a Roth conversion?

A Roth conversion may be worth looking at when your income is temporarily lower, required distributions are getting closer, or you think your tax rate could be higher later. We also look at Medicare premiums, cash flow, and how the conversion fits into the rest of your plan.

Can you work with my CPA?

Yes. With your permission, I can coordinate with your CPA and share the planning assumptions or questions that are relevant to the decision.

Is tax planning available on an hourly basis?

Yes. Some tax-planning questions fit well into an hourly engagement. Ongoing clients receive tax-aware planning as part of the broader financial planning relationship.
